A moment in Tunisia / Project update and what I read

Posted in Documentary by John Roshka on April 9, 2013

It is very hard to write on a blog about photography, especially when everything you feel you want to write is already written on other blogs. I mean, that my ideas and my feelings about a particular issue can be very well described on Blake Andrews blog, Joerg Colberg’s blog on LPV Magazine digests and I don’t get it to write it better, no way…they are the best. What should I write about then…have no idea.

First, I was thinking to share on my blog the links to the posts I really like or to paragraphs that I find as inspirational. But, anyone can just go to their blogs and read the posts and decide for themselves what is good or bad for them as photographers.

Then, there is these trend of writing a whole Bible about “how I made this photo, from the beginning till the end” without even noticing that the audience might have another opinion about the power of the image itself.

So, what is left is images. I think there are people/photographers/authors/philosophers that CAN do the talk and the photography, and there are those who can’t really do it. I think I’m one of them. I have it all in my have but I don’t have the ability to let it on paper as these 3 people do that I really respect. They inspire photographers, at least me, by writing thoughts, ideas, searching for the future and finding a reason in what we photographers do.

These are the main blogs I read everyday and can’t wait for a new post to appear:

Blake Andrews Blog

LPVMagazine

Joerg Colberg Blog – Conscientious

The other blogs and sources I like:

Eric Kim Photography Blog

A Photo Editor

Wayne Ford’s blog

TIME Lightbox

So, if there are people designed to write and inspire us photographers…and themselves also…what is left for us is to produce images…and share them.

July 21

Posted in Chisinau, Documentary, Moldova, Photography, Street by John Roshka on July 21, 2011

I’m being lazy or busy. Busy because I study Swedish and lazy because it’s been too hot these days…I guess. Anyway, here are some photos from today. I don’t have a lot of time for stories or long term projects, so I’m mainly shooting street. I love it. Don’t know why. It’s great to put pieces of a moment together, I believe.

Check out my friends blog. He is a French photographer doing his stories in Moldova.

Street Moment

I haven’t updated my blog for a long time. That’s bad.

I’ll do my best to show one image everyday. That will keep my working and will stimulate working with photography.

The end of PerfectRaw project ?

Posted in Moldova, PerfectRAW, Photography by John Roshka on March 28, 2010

Hello everyone.

Haven’t posted anything related to PerfectRaw for a long time. Well, apparently the team working on it is leaving it behind, moving forward by launching new websites, Manuel Llorens site, and working on other projects.

I’m moved by this decision guys made, but on the other hand I can understand their situation. Without financial support and having families is pretty hard to work on a project just “for fun”. But, we are all very thankful to them…well, at least I am. I’m still using PR 0.65 and I love it.

And there’s also a hope. Manuel made the PerfectRaw 0.65 code public, so that anyone interested in the continuation of the project can participate.

I’ll keep following the PR project and if there are some major changes in it’s way to nr. 1 RAW developer… 🙂 I’ll post it here. Until then I think I’ll fill this blog with my photography and share it with you.

Actually I don’t know why haven’t done this so far.. 🙂

Have a great light…
